Shelby is a happy, goofy, and affectionate 6-month-old spayed female Shepherd/Hound/Terrier mix. She's currently 39 pounds and expected to be a large dog when fully grown, with a long body type. Shelby and her mom and sister were rescued from a shelter in San Antonio, Texas, after spending 40 days there. She has truly thrived in foster care, bringing warmth and joy into every space she enters. Shelby is curious, eager to learn, and deeply connected to her people, making her a delightful companion.
Ideal Home
Shelby would thrive in a home that enjoys a dog's companionship and attention, is patient with puppy training, and wants an active, affectionate family member. She wants to be included in all family activities, whether it's hiking, walking, playing in the yard, or simply spending time together.
Ongoing Health
Shelby is a healthy puppy. She has no known ongoing health conditions.
Training & Support
Shelby is still in the process of house training and has made significant progress. She is learning to signal when she needs to go outside and is expected to master house training quickly with consistency. She sleeps through the night in her crate and tolerates crating but prefers to be near her people and other dogs. She may bark briefly when crated during the day but will settle. Shelby should not be crated excessively as she is social and happiest when included in daily life. She is still a puppy and needs continued basic training. She has already learned to sit, walks nicely on a harness, and plays appropriately with toys and bones. She loves sniffing and would likely enjoy scent-based activities or classes. She eats enthusiastically and would benefit from a slow feeder.
