Rufio

Meet Rufio, a handsome Cane Corso mix who currently weighs 66 pounds. His foster mom is diligently working to help him reach his ideal weight of 75 pounds. This sweet boy was rescued from the streets in early January 2026 and is learning every day that he can trust humans.

Rufio is a shy, quiet boy with a sweet, gentle temperament. While it takes him a little time to warm up to new people, he quickly began following his foster mom around the house, seeking affection, and hopping onto the couch and bed to be close to his family. He adores his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the younger son being his absolute favorite! He is a bit intimidated by his foster dad but has shown no aggression, simply retreating when he's around. They are taking things slow with him.

Ideal Home

Rufio would benefit from a patient family that can help him feel safe and loved. Seeing a timid foster blossom is incredibly rewarding! He would love calm, well-mannered doggy friends who can help him gain confidence.

Ongoing Health

Rufio is currently underweight, and his foster family is working to help him reach his target weight.

Training & Support

Rufio is house-trained and lets his family know when he needs to go outside. He is also crate-trained for when the family is away and sleeps through the night. He is not vocal, except for an occasional quiet whimper when excited or unsure, and a funny howl when his foster mom leaves that lasts only a couple of minutes. He is still working on his leash manners, which are improving.

Rufio is located in Houston, TX, but can be transported to most states for an additional fee of $300.
