Meet Curly! This approximately 2-year-old, 9 lb pup is a true testament to the power of patience and love. Curly came to us from a hoarding situation in Alabama, so his past is a bit of a mystery. He's one of three dogs from the same home who have found a new lease on life with Waggytail. Curly is what we call a "long-haul dog," but every week, he shows us that meaningful progress doesn't have to be fast. Since arriving in late May, this sweet boy has made incredible strides. He's now happily going on 3-4 walks a day and is completely potty trained, doing all his business outside. While the world can still feel a bit overwhelming, Curly is growing more comfortable with his daily routine and continues to build confidence with every outing. At home, his personality truly shines. The moment his foster mom sits on the couch or lies down in bed, Curly is right there, curled up in her lap, showing his trust and affection. He's still a very shy dog, however, and can be hand-shy and startles easily. He prefers not to be approached for pets or handled and will typically move away if someone reaches for him, unless it's his chosen cuddle time. Once he climbs into your lap on his own terms, he's content to stay there for hours.
Ideal Home
Curly needs a patient and understanding home that will celebrate his small victories and allow him to build confidence at his own pace. He doesn't need to be "fixed," just met where he is.
Ongoing Health
Curly is vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. He has been spayed/neutered and microchipped. He tested negative for heartworm disease and is current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
Training & Support
Curly is still a shy dog and can be hand-shy and startles easily. He does not enjoy being approached for pets or handled and will move away if someone reaches for him. He is considered a flight-risk dog and requires diligence to ensure his safety. When outside, he must always be secured with a properly fitted harness, collar, and leash, all backed up together. Inside the home, he wears a lightweight leash so his foster mom can gently guide him without physical contact, which can be scary for him.
