About Teddy Bear

Teddy Bear is a very sweet, goofy, and energetic boy who loves affection and pets from humans! He does warm up slowly to people, never aggressive, but a little aloof initially. Once he gets yummy treats from you, he will quickly seek you out for more treats and affection – no lap is safe! He will jump up on you when you have treats in your hand and then try to steal them.

Bear loves to go in the car and normally runs to the car, standing there waiting for his ride. He also loves the water; he will jump right into the lake to cool himself off!

Bear was sent to a training facility as a puppy and learned a lot of different commands. While his previous owner didn't do a lot of upkeep with those commands, Bear is very eager to please and knows a lot of cues. Teach him something, and he will remember it forever!

Ideal Home

Bear does have some resource and barrier aggression that will need special attention, but it is manageable. He exhibits barrier reactivity when he is behind a barrier, such as a kennel/crate or in the car. He is very excited to get out of his crate, and when that barrier is between you and him, he barks and gets quickly excited. As soon as the door is opened, he is running out the door looking for affection and/or treats. He doesn’t react to other dogs in a crate/kennel when he gets out; it seems to happen only when he is behind the gate. He will need some special care when opening the house doors as he does like to jet out.

Bear lived with another large breed dog and got along the majority of the time. Sometimes they would get into fights due to resource guarding. He does well with other dogs outside of the resource guarding situation.

Ongoing Health

No ongoing health conditions are noted.

Training & Support

Bear exhibits barrier reactivity and resource guarding, which will need special attention. He also likes to jet out of doors, so careful handling is required when opening house doors. Despite this, Bear is very eager to please and knows many commands. He will likely pick up training quickly with consistent effort.
