About Winky

Winky is a sweet, playful girl with a heart of gold and so much potential! She was found as a stray in a rural area and, despite a recent eye injury that has healed beautifully (she just needs lubricating eye drops until it's fully healed!), she bravely protected another dog and her puppies from an aggressive stray. This brave act likely led to her eye injury, but it has healed remarkably well on its own. Winky absolutely adores people, dogs, and cats. She's a big, goofy girl who loves to run and wrestle, and she's ready to find a playmate!

Ideal Home

Winky needs an active home with another dog, preferably one who enjoys vigorous play like she does. She is not delicate and loves to run and wrestle. Due to her skittishness with loud noises, she requires a securely fenced yard, at least 6 ft tall (wood or vinyl), to ensure her safety.

Ongoing Health

Winky's eye injury has healed well and does not require stitches. She needs lubricating eye drops until it is completely healed.

Training & Support

Winky is a smart girl with a lot of potential, but she currently has no manners except for sitting. Consistency and training will help her become a well-behaved companion. She can be skittish and will go into "flight or fight" mode when scared, especially of loud noises. She needs adopters who understand her quirks and can keep a tight grip on her while in public. A crate will be a required safe space for her, as it's the only thing that comforts her when she's scared. She learns quickly with treats, but loud noises will take more work. Having a non-reactive dog sibling will be a huge advantage, as Winky often looks to other dogs for cues.
