Sasha is an 8-year-old spayed female Catahoula mix, weighing around 60 pounds, who could use a little help shedding a few pounds. She's a vocal and extroverted girl who loves to converse with her people and is a good watchdog, alerting to comings and goings. Sasha is very food motivated and enjoys learning and playing games like tug and fetch. She's a true companion dog who prefers to be with her people rather than spending time in the yard alone, and she loves to cuddle. Sasha is crate-trained and house-trained, and she travels well in a car. She does have a tendency to pull on the leash when excited, so a harness is recommended. While she has lived with cats and has never hurt them, she does play a bit roughly, and due to her prey drive, we recommend no small dogs in her new home. Sasha would do best as an only dog or with a respectful male dog. She's a happy dog who has experienced a lot of loss and deserves a stable, loving home.
Ideal Home
Sasha would thrive in a home where she can be a devoted companion and isn't left alone for long periods. She needs a home that can manage her prey drive and recommend no small dogs. She would do best as an only dog or with a respectful male companion. She does not do well with fireworks or storms and may have accidents during extreme events.
Ongoing Health
Sasha has some manageable health conditions. She has a skin allergy requiring Apoquel and takes Rimadyl (or Carprofen) and Dasuquin for joint support due to a partial ACL surgery failure, though she manages well and is active. She also receives flea and tick prevention (Simparica) and an annual heartworm injection (Proheart). She is vaccinated against snakebites after a past incident and received successful anti-venom treatment.
Training & Support
Sasha can be selective with strangers and may need to be separated initially. She is protective of her person and may react to people she dislikes or unfamiliar objects like scooters. She enjoys toy play but unsupervised chewing can lead to toys being removed.
