Gretel is a loving and happy pup once she trusts. She's an extremely smart girl who learns quickly with repetition and knows "sit," "down," and "wait." She's working on recall and loves treats, responding well to short, positive training sessions. Gretel is slowly learning to play with toys and other dogs, and her drive to please and overcome her fears is immense. However, she is a timid and shy girl with many fears and requires time and patience to build trust and learn that new experiences can be positive. She's gradually becoming part of a family and is comfortable with gentle touch, especially ear scratches and belly rubs. Gretel is house-trained and will seek out her quiet spot when nervous. She is learning to accept a leash and harness and will walk in quiet areas, but loud noises, people, and wind can startle her, making her want to retreat. She walks well with other dogs but needs a quiet environment and will not yet walk near roads with traffic. She has bolted when scared in the past.
Ideal Home
A quieter home where Gretel can advance at her own speed with gentle encouragement when she's ready. She is okay with other dogs and would benefit from a patient owner who understands her need to learn at her own pace.
Ongoing Health
Gretel will receive a full medical assessment before leaving Cortez Rescue to ensure she remains in optimum health.
