Saki

Saki is a two-and-a-half-year-old, 58-pound female Akita mix who arrived at Halfway Home Rescue through our rescue partners in Georgia. She was scheduled for euthanasia due to being a special needs dog. Saki is at least partially hearing impaired and has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a permanent condition caused by in-utero distemper exposure. CH affects the development of the cerebellum, leading to a bobble in her head and a slightly different gait, but it doesn't impact her overall health. We think it just adds to her unique charm! She is a silly, playful, and energetic girl who loves to run and play. Saki gets along with the dogs in her foster home, though she can sometimes be a little slow to read social cues from other dogs due to her condition.

Ideal Home

Saki would do best in a home with adults or older children (teens and up).

Ongoing Health

Saki has cerebellar hypoplasia (CH) and is partially hearing impaired. CH does not affect her health but causes a head bobble and affects her gait. She was recently treated for heartworm and is current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

Training & Support

Due to her condition, Saki may sometimes be a bit "rude" when first meeting other dogs because she has a harder time reading their cues. Patience and understanding will be key as she settles in.
