Baxter

Baxter is an about 5-year-old Australian Shepherd with a black tri-color coat, ready for his new home. He was an owner surrender and is seeking a special placement where he can truly thrive. Baxter enjoys the ranch lifestyle and loves to swim, run, and play. He knows his basic commands, is house-trained, leash-trained, and kennel-trained. He is an alert dog with medium to high drive, observant of his surroundings. Baxter has been exposed to cattle and horses but is kept on a leash as he does have a desire to herd.

Ideal Home

Baxter would do best in a single-dog, active home that is not an apartment. He prefers a female handler. He is muzzle-trained due to periodic reactivity to environmental stimuli and some men, though this can depend on the individual. He counter-surfs when out of the kitchen, so he needs to be kept out of that area.

Ongoing Health

Baxter's parents are genetic panel tested clear and have good/normal OFA results for hips and elbows. He will receive proper vaccinations and deworming before going to his new home. He will also have a vet check, and his health records can be shared.

Training & Support

Baxter knows his basic commands and is house, leash, and kennel trained. He does resource guard, so it's important to manage his interactions with other dogs and his food. Treats are a great motivator for him. He also loves to get on the couch.
