Hi there! My name is Rugrat, but my foster mama affectionately calls me Penny Pen, likely for my soulful brown eyes and the way I seem to ponder life's important questions. She also says I have the softest, velvet-like fur and give the best lean-in cuddles. I'm a pretty great, easy puppy who made the journey all the way from New Mexico. This snow is a bit chilly, but I still love to romp and play outside, even enough to wear out my foster fur brother, who is barely two! So far, I've been a wonderful house guest, with only one tiny accident on my first night. I'm currently sharing my space with a couple of humans (including an 11-year-old I adore and follow everywhere!), my energetic foster fur brother Oak, and two cats. I'm quite curious about the cats, but they haven't shown much interest in playing with me. One of them even swatted me, which understandably hurt my feelings, so I've given her space.
Ideal Home
I'd love a home where I can continue to play and explore! While I get along with other dogs and cats, I'm still learning how to interact with the cats and respect their space.

Training & Support
I'm a super smart girl who loves to learn! I've already mastered potty training, sit, and come when called. I'm working on leash manners and am starting to learn down, stay, and leave it (I'm quick to drop things when asked!). My foster mom mentions I could use some gentle reminders about personal space, as I love to play so much I sometimes cuddle on you instead of next to you, but I'm easily redirected. I thrive on positive reinforcement and especially love training sessions because I enjoy pleasing my people. I'm not a huge fan of the kennel, but I go in easily, especially with a yummy treat, and have even started to settle in on my own for some downtime. I sleep in my kennel, though I'd much prefer to be closer to my humans.
