About Odie

Hi, I'm Odie. I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a lot of love and potential to offer! My life started a bit rough, as I was found as a tiny puppy on the side of the road. While my siblings found homes, I stayed with someone special, and because of that, I've carried some anxiety and fear into adulthood. But don't worry, I'm working hard every day to overcome it! I bond deeply with my people once I trust them, and I'm incredibly gentle with the baby in my current home. I'm playful, smart, know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I genuinely want to please. I'm looking for a patient, steady, and confident person to help me learn how to navigate the world and feel safe.

Ideal Home

I would do best in a home with an experienced dog owner who understands fear-based behaviors and can set clear boundaries while still being gentle. I need someone who will help me feel safe and confident. I am not a match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I would do best in a household without young children under 14 years of age. I am not good with cats.

Ongoing Health

I am neutered and am currently taking Reconcile to help manage my anxiety. Being neutered has been beneficial for me.

Training & Support

My anxiety can show up in different ways. I can be protective of my person and may bark or growl at strangers. I struggle with the crate, as it scares me, and getting me inside can be a challenge. When left alone, I do best with access to just one room. I can become overstimulated and redirect to those around me, and I have had a single bite incident. I would benefit from training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and don't need to defend the household.
