About Maya

Maya is a darling little Chihuahua mix who weighs just 7 pounds and is approximately 5 years old. She came to us as a stray, and we were happy to help this sweet girl get out of the pound and on her way to a forever home. Now that she’s settled into foster care, her personality has truly begun to shine. Maya is an absolute sweetheart who loves to cuddle and snuggle with her person. She actively seeks out affection and has perfected her “pet me, please” poses to get your attention. She enjoys treats—especially a little cheese when she’s being an extra good girl—and she loves nothing more than curling up with her human for some quiet companionship. Maya is surprisingly good watchdog with a big bark for such a tiny girl. She enjoys people and is very much a lap dog.

Ideal Home

Maya's ideal home would be with someone who enjoys a calm, cozy lifestyle and appreciates a loyal little couch companion. She would do well with older children who understand not to handle her roughly.

Ongoing Health

Maya is now spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchihed, flea and worm treated, and heartworm negative. She also had full bloodwork and a dental cleaning with a few extractions while under anesthesia.

Training & Support

Maya is not leash trained yet, and while she isn’t terrible on a leash, she would much prefer not to be on one at all. A fully fenced yard would be ideal for her. When it comes to housetraining, Maya is a typical Chihuahua: she does fairly well in good weather, and she consistently uses pee pads (her foster uses cloth ones) inside the home. In bad weather, she will absolutely choose the pads over going outside. She gets along well with other dogs and isn’t afraid to stand up for herself if another dog gets too pushy. She doesn’t mind the cats in her foster home, though she may bark at them occasionally. We require that a martingale collar be used at the time of adoption. If you do not have a martingale collar, you can purchase one from Pixie Mamas for an additional $10.
