Rufio

Meet Rufio, a 66-pound Cane Corso mix who is working on reaching his ideal weight of 75 pounds. This sweet, shy boy was rescued from the streets in January 2026 and is learning that he can trust humans. He has a gentle temperament and it takes a little time for him to warm up to new people. Once he feels comfortable, he blossoms into a loving companion who enjoys being near his family, seeking affection, and cuddling on the couch and bed.

Ideal Home

Rufio would thrive in a patient home that can help him feel safe and loved. He enjoys the company of his foster mom and two children (ages 9 and 11), with a special fondness for the 9-year-old. While he is a little intimidated by men and tends to shy away from his foster dad, he has shown no aggression. He would also love to have calm, well-mannered canine friends who can help him gain confidence.

Rufio is currently underweight and is being monitored and cared for to reach his target weight.

Training & Support

Rufio is house-trained, indicating when he needs to go outside by approaching the back door. He is also crate-trained for when his family is away, tolerating the crate well without accidents. He sleeps soundly through the night, either in his foster parents' bed or in a crate in their bedroom, as long as he is near them. While he is not vocal, he occasionally whimpers when excited or uncertain and has a funny howl when his foster mom leaves, which lasts only a couple of minutes. He is working on his leash manners, which are already quite good, and does not react to other people or dogs he encounters.
