Hazel is a 1-year-old terrier mix weighing 44 pounds with a soft heart and a resilient spirit. She was originally adopted as a puppy, later given away, and eventually surrendered by the family who took her in. By the time she arrived back at the shelter, Hazel was overwhelmed and shut down, unsure of what to expect next. With patience and consistency, her true personality began to shine. Hazel has become a staff favorite, known for her gentle nature and steady temperament. She has a natural ability to put other dogs at ease and now serves as the shelter’s go-to dog tester. Hazel does well with dogs of all ages and sizes, reading social cues appropriately and adjusting her play style to match her companion. After more than six weeks in the shelter, Hazel was at risk simply due to her length of stay. Thanks to glowing staff notes and some heart-melting videos, she earned her freedom ride to the Pacific Northwest for a fresh start. We can't wait to meet her! Hazel is doing exceptionally well in foster care. She adores her foster siblings and has been an excellent house guest. Hazel attended her first meet and greet and was friendly with anyone who wanted to say hi.
