Gretel is a beautiful 5-year-old rescue with a loving heart and a spirit that shines when given patience and kindness. While she can be cautious at first, once trust is built, Gretel reveals her joyful, loyal nature and its truly something special. Extremely intelligent and eager to please, Gretel learns quickly with gentle, consistent guidance. She already knows commands like sit, lay down, and wait, and she responds wonderfully to short, positive training sessions—especially when there are tasty treats involved! Gretel is fully house trained and naturally seeks out quiet, cozy spots when she's feeling overwhelmed. She walks nicely on a leash and harness in calm areas, but loud noises, bustling environments, and sudden movements can startle her. For this reason, she'll thrive in a peaceful home with someone who understands that progress takes time, trust, and encouragement at her pace. Other calm, respectful dogs are just fine by Gretel, and she could do well with a companion who helps her feel safe. What she needs most is someone patient and steady—willing to help her grow with love, compassion, and a few gentle nudges when she's ready. Gretel is more than a rescue—she's a story of quiet resilience and deep devotion waiting to be written with you. Sadly, because of her shyness, sweet Gretel has been with Cortez Rescue over 1000 days. Gretel has had a rough start to her precious life and is working on learning to trust again. She is yet another shining example of the amazing resilience of dogs. She has come leaps and bounds since coming to the rescue with several amazing fosters that have shown her love and patience.

Ongoing Health
Gretel will be given a full medical assessment to ensure she remains in optimum health before leaving Cortez Rescue. She has been spayed and micro-chipped.
Training & Support
