Fernando Silverio is a male Border Terrier Mix, approximately 4 years old and weighing 13.4 lbs. He's a sweet soul with the charm of a tiny grumpy old man and the heart of a true gentleman. Fernando is calm, well-mannered, and social, doing well with other dogs, children, men, and women. He can be a little shy at first, especially when receiving affection, but once he feels safe, his unique personality shines through. Naturally laid-back due to his age, he prefers quiet companionship and enjoys peaceful coexistence with other dogs, making him an ideal low-energy companion. Fernando may look serious, but his sweet gaze and quiet presence are incredibly endearing, and he's patiently waiting for a loving home that will give him the time and understanding he needs to trust.
Ideal Home
Fernando would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. He needs a family with a genuine intention to rescue and a deep understanding of the needs and behaviors of rescued animals. Experience with dog behavior and training is highly preferred, or a commitment to hiring a trainer. High tolerance and patience are essential, as Fernando is not house-trained.
Ongoing Health
Fernando is up-to-date on all his medical needs. He has received a Spay/Neuter Certificate, 2 DHPPI vaccines, a Rabies vaccine, a Bordetella vaccine, and has been dewormed. He is microchipped, and has a 4DX Test and Certificate, a Negative Heartworm Test Certificate, and is on monthly preventive protection with Nexgard Spectra. He also has a Health Certificate and a Vaccines booklet.
Training & Support
Fernando is not house-trained, and adopters should be prepared for this. He may also require an adjustment period in his new home due to his past experiences. Patience and understanding are crucial to help him overcome any fears or anxieties and build trust.

- If it's a match, we will call or video chat to introduce you to Fernando and conduct a virtual home tour.
- We will then speak with 1-2 of your references.
- If approved, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover vet care, vaccinations, microchip, food, and more.
Transportation
Fernando is currently fostered in Saltillo, Mexico. He is available for transport to the East Coast on our cross-country trips. A transport fee of $400 USD covers door-to-door delivery from Mexico to your home. Our transport process includes scheduled trips 3-4 times per year with a partnered transport company. Each pet receives comprehensive paperwork, including a Transport Contract and Health Certificate from the USDA. Real-time updates will be provided throughout the journey in a private Facebook Messenger group.
