Chido

Charming Chido is a nearly 4-year-old, 63 lb American Bulldog mix with a heart of gold. He came to us from the streets outside of Houston and has shown incredible resilience and trust in people and animals despite his past. Chido is a gentle soul who loves cats and gets along well with most dogs. He enjoys short walks, playing with toys, and a good nap – he really does sleep a lot! He's also great with children.

Ideal Home

Chido would thrive in a home where someone is home often, ideally someone retired or working from home, as he suffers from separation anxiety. He needs a patient and loving household that will provide him with comfort and companionship. Chido is an inside companion only and not suited to be an outside dog.

Ongoing Health

Chido is heartworm positive and is currently on a slow-kill medication (Heartguard), which is an inexpensive monthly pill. He will need to be tested annually to monitor his heartworm status. He also experiences occasional hip arthritis, which can make it difficult for him to get around initially. This has only happened twice since he's been in foster care. His X-rays show inflammation but no broken bones. He is otherwise a healthy and loving companion.

Training & Support

Chido walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and is potty trained. He can be a little dog-selective, but he does well with other dogs as long as they aren't trying to dominate him or jumping on him. He is frightened by loud noises like thunder, lightning, and fireworks, and will need comforting during these times.
