This beautiful 3-year-old girl, formerly known as Oreo, has blossomed into our Starr! She's a minibernadoodle, though we see some Australian Shepherd in her striking coloring. Weighing in at about 32 pounds, Starr came to us from a commercial breeder. She began her journey in a foster home where a young girl lovingly named her Oreo. After a few months, her foster mom realized her busy household wasn't the best fit for Starr's needs, and she wasn't progressing as she could. Starr then moved to her current foster home, where she truly became our Starr.
Starr has made wonderful progress over the last two months. She walks beautifully on a leash and looks to her human for guidance. She needs a confident, calm, and steady pack leader. Loud noises and quick movements can startle her, so a quieter, less busy home is ideal. She's very aware of her surroundings when outside and needs a leader to reassure her that she is safe. While Starr enjoys being close to her foster mom and wants to be part of the action, direct eye contact makes her uneasy, and she's still a bit shy about being touched. She will allow it, and even seems to enjoy it once it's happening, but she is initially apprehensive and needs gentle encouragement. She absolutely loves her stuffies, bones, and treats – it's just humans she needs a little convincing with!
Starr is crate-trained and sleeps soundly in her crate at night. House-training is a work in progress, and she does better as she feels more secure in her environment. Starr needs a quiet home with a predictable routine and a family that will allow her to grow at her own pace with gentle guidance. She enjoys the company of other dogs, and a confident resident dog is required in her forever home to help show Starr how to be a well-loved member of the family.
