Daisy is a beautiful 2-year-old brindle mixed breed female who has been in and out of the shelter system for about a year. She has the capacity to bond very deeply with her adopter, as she has done so with her current foster and their family. Because of her history with abuse as a puppy and a past encounter where she was bitten by another dog while on leash, Daisy has some stranger danger and leash reactivity. She has attended an intense 8-week board and train program where she excelled with structure, consistency, and boundaries, and her training continues with her current foster and trainers. She is working hard, and her progress is evident. Daisy is housebroken, crate trained, and knows basic commands. She walks beautifully on a leash and is muzzle trained, coming with her own muzzle to help her and her handler feel confident and secure in stressful situations. While she still experiences anxiety with new people, this is being actively addressed in training.
Ideal Home
Daisy would need an experienced adopter who is willing to continue her training. She thrives in structure and consistency, as it helps her to feel safe. She would require multiple meet n greets in order to slowly become acclimated to a new adopter. She would do best with a laid-back dog, and proper introductions would be required. An adult-only home is recommended, or a home with children 13+ who are understanding of respecting a dog's boundaries. A low-traffic home is preferred, or a willingness to do slow introductions in accordance with her behavior plan. It is recommended that she be crated if circumstances do not allow for a slow introduction of house guests.
Ongoing Health
Daisy is currently on medication, and her adopter will need to continue this until a veterinarian guides in proper tapering and discontinuation.
Training & Support
Daisy has attended an intense 8-week board and train program and continues to work with her foster and trainers. She needs an adopter willing to follow her behavioral plan and continue with training maintenance, which requires consistency but can also be fun.
