Meet Kong – a sweet Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund mix) who is a professional cuddler and blanket burrower. Kong is 5 years old and weighs about 13lbs. He’s a low-energy pup who loves nothing more than to snuggle up on your lap or under a warm blanket. Kong is crate-trained and non-destructive when left alone, but he does prefer having people around and might bark if left for too long. He’d do best with someone who is home frequently, like a retiree or someone who works from home. Kong gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would love a canine sibling, though it's not a requirement. While he hasn't been tested with cats, his gentle nature suggests he might be okay with them. Kong is still working on his house-training, but he is very food-motivated, which can be a great help in training. He’s leash-trained but tends to stay close to his people when outdoors.
Ideal Home
Kong would thrive in a home with a single person or an adult couple. He needs someone who is home most of the time. If children are present, they should be older and calm. A home with another friendly dog would be a plus. Kong also needs a family committed to continuing his house-training and providing plenty of lap time and cuddles.
Ongoing Health
Kong has a carpal valgus deformity in his front right leg and mild calculus. He doesn't experience pain or limitations from this, but he should be given fish oil and Dasuquin daily.
Training & Support
Kong is still working on house-training and will need consistency. He is very food-motivated, which is a great training tool. Adopters should be aware that he may investigate trash cans if he smells something tasty.
