Mariano

Mariano is a three-year-old lab mix with a very gentle, sensitive nature. He's been in foster care for about two years, slowly learning that people can be kind and safe. Underneath his shyness is a playful, goofy dog who clearly wants to connect with his person. He is still nervous about hands near his collar and neck, which makes sense given his history with a shock collar. Once he relaxes, his real personality shows: he bunny hops when he runs, loves to play chase and wrestle with another dog, and carries toys around the yard. He also has surprisingly loud little snores and makes soft snorting sounds when he's getting comfortable, which is incredibly endearing. Mariano is a special dog with a tender heart and a difficult past. He needs someone with a soft, steady presence who can show him that the world is safe. For the right person, he has the potential to become a deeply bonded, once-in-a-lifetime companion.

Ideal Home

Mariano does best with another confident, friendly dog in the home and either a fenced yard or an active household, because he has plenty of energy. A patient, understanding home is important for leash work.

Training & Support

Mariano is fully house trained and lets you know when he needs to go out. He has an excellent recall, even in open spaces. Leash work is still a challenge due to his fear around his neck. A fairly consistent routine helps him feel safe and reduces his anxiety.
