Karl is a handsome, older gentleman ready for his forever home! He is a resilient dog who settles into household schedules quickly, bonds deeply with his handlers, and is incredibly eager to learn. Karl is a loyal, intelligent companion who thrives on routine.

Ideal Home

Karl was surrendered for chasing livestock, so he cannot live on a farm or ranch. He prefers calm friends and becomes tense around forward, confident male dogs, so he needs a home without other male pets.

Training & Support

Karl is a crate superstar and goes right into his kennel without a fuss. He is routine-oriented, and while change can make him a little anxious, providing a predictable routine causes his anxiety to melt away. He tolerates bathing and full-body handling exceptionally well. He warms up quickly to both men and women who offer a structured environment. Karl is highly food motivated and will do absolutely anything for a treat, making training a total breeze! He loves playing fetch, though he prefers proudly carrying the ball around rather than dropping it. He happily shares and does not guard his food, toys, or resources. He already knows "Place," has an excellent recall, and transitions easily between different handlers. Karl's initial anxiety comes from simply not knowing what is expected of him. Practicing simple boundaries-like waiting at doorways and steadying on the leash-brings out his absolute best, most confident self. While he is an angel walking indoors, the exciting outdoor world makes him a strong puller! He responds beautifully to specialized walking tools (like a Wonder Lead). He needs an adopter committed to continuing his outdoor leash manners. Karl showed excellent manners in a training room surrounded by other dogs, with zero outbursts.
