Athena

Athena, a 1-year-old Terrier mix, is a bundle of playful energy and affection waiting to find her forever home! Estimated to be born in May 2025, this 35-pound girl was found abandoned in the woods with her siblings, a testament to her resilience and capacity for love. Athena has blossomed beautifully in foster care, transforming from a scared pup into a curious, affectionate, and incredibly social young dog. She's a true joy to be around, often bringing her humans into her zoomies and offering endless entertainment. Athena is smart and eager to please, already mastering commands like "sit," "down," "drop it," and "come." She thrives on interaction and is learning to navigate social cues with her canine friends, showing a particular fondness for smaller dogs but loving all sizes. While she's still in her chewing phase, with plenty of appropriate toys and consistent guidance, she's well on her way to maturing into a wonderful companion.

Ideal Home

Athena would thrive in an active household that can provide her with daily exercise and mental enrichment. She needs a home with plenty of appropriate chew toys to satisfy her chewing phase and a commitment to continued training, structure, and socialization. A home with a playful canine companion would be wonderful, as she loves interacting with other dogs. A home without cats may be ideal, as she is very curious and likely to try and engage them as she does dogs.

Ongoing Health

Athena is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. She is a young, healthy dog who is simply in need of continued care and love.

Training & Support

Athena is a smart pup who is already learning basic commands and continues to excel with positive reinforcement. She is in her chewing phase and will need guidance and plenty of appropriate chew toys. Patience and consistency will be key as she continues to mature and learn.

• Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
• Once your initial application is screened, you will be connected with the placement coordinator for a video chat.
• Transports run every few weeks, and approved adopters will have their dog on the next available transport.
• If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time.
• We are a volunteer-run rescue dedicated to these dogs. Please only apply if you are serious about moving forward in our adoption process.
• Ensure all decision-makers in your household are on board before applying.
• The adoption process includes an application, a phone interview, a video call with the foster home, a virtual home visit, and personal and vet reference checks.

Transporation

Athena is currently located in San Antonio, Texas. Transport is included in the adoption donation and she can be transported once matched to an approved adopter.
