About Happy

Happy is a 5-year-old, neutered male Great Pyrenees who loves taking life at his own pace and enjoys soaking in the world around him, especially if that world includes muddy puddles, snowbanks, or a comfortable spot to flop down mid-walk. Happy is affectionate, loyal, and deeply protective of the people he trusts. He enjoys pets and companionship, but like many Great Pyrenees, he prefers thoughtful introductions. Taking him for walks while getting to know him helps him feel more comfortable and secure around new people entering his space. As a historic livestock guardian breed, Happy naturally takes his role as protector seriously. He has become much more comfortable around familiar, respectful dogs and generally ignores dogs that are calm and friendly toward him. He does, however, have a history of resource guarding around food, so he'll do best in a home that can give him quiet, uninterrupted mealtimes. Happy has a playful streak hidden beneath all that fluff. If invited up for cuddles, he's more than happy to lean, flop, or fully "polar bear" hug his way into your lap. He absolutely loves cooling off in puddles and snow, so expect extra baths during muddy seasons. His thick coat makes him well suited for colder climates, though he's just as content relaxing indoors with his people. Because of his size, strength, and protective instincts, Happy would thrive with a family that understands guardian breeds and can continue socializing him while giving him structure, enrichment, and a sense of purpose. He's intelligent, loving, and full of personality -- including a stubborn streak during walks. If Happy decides he's done walking, he may simply sit down and wait things out until attention, patience, or perhaps a well-timed treat convinces him to continue. Happy is a deeply loving boy who has become a favorite among staff thanks to his charm, goofy habits, and loyal nature.
