Amber is a sweet, gentle, and loving 9-year-old, 12-pound terrier mix. She originally came to us from a home where her elderly owner could no longer care for her, and she seems to have had puppies in the past. Amber can be a bit uncertain with new people, but with patience and gentle attention, she quickly warms up and shows her true affectionate nature. She loves to give and receive kisses and will often roll over to show her belly when she wants attention. Amber enjoys the company of other calm dogs and has learned to co-exist with multiple dogs in her foster home. She is eager to please her humans and responds well to gentle guidance.
Ideal Home
Amber would do best in a home without young children, as she can be startled by loud noises and sudden movements. She absolutely dislikes cats and would not be happy in a home with any felines. A fenced-in backyard, even if not large, would be ideal for her. She enjoys the company of other calm dogs, so a home with at least one canine sibling would be wonderful.
Ongoing Health
Amber is up-to-date on all vetting, including bloodwork, dental, spay, vaccinations, and a heartworm test. Her skin and coat have improved significantly with good food and regular baths.
Training & Support
Amber is generally well-behaved and uses pee pads and goes outside for her business. She can be a bit of a chow hound at meal times but is respectful of other dogs' bowls with a gentle correction. She is also good at coming when called, even when distracted by her terrier instincts to chase small creatures like squirrels or birds. While she is learning to be comfortable with being held, she is not overly clingy and is happy to relax in various comfortable spots around the house, including dog beds and the back of the sofa. She enjoys nightly massages, especially belly rubs.
