Pluto is an affectionate, 70-pound, neutered male dog with a heart full of love to give. This sweet and happy boy is approximately 10 years old and is up-to-date on his vaccinations. He was found abandoned on the side of the road in October 2023 and is now searching for his forever home. Pluto's favorite things include gentle pets, cozy cuddles, long naps, and engaging with his chew toys. He's content to entertain himself but also enjoys a game of fetch and loves going on walks and road trips.
Ideal Home
Pluto is great with people, including children, and generally does well with other dogs. While he loves to play with his canine companions, he can become possessive of his toys if boundaries aren't established. He's house-trained and not possessive over food. Pluto has shown interest in cats and has learned to ignore chickens, so he might tolerate feline friends with a patient introduction. He would be happy as the only dog or as part of a multi-dog household. Pluto would thrive in a home where he has an experienced owner who can provide patience and understanding for his senior needs.
Ongoing Health
As Pluto ages, his back legs are becoming weaker. He has discovered a love for swimming, which has been beneficial in strengthening his muscles, and he gets very excited when visiting the pool. He will require an owner experienced in caring for an older, larger dog and needs assistance getting into vehicles.
Training & Support
Pluto knows basic commands such as "come," "sit," "drop," and "paw." He is quiet, only barking briefly for package deliveries or visitors, and he reliably uses the bathroom in a fenced yard or on walks. He is crate-trained, though not currently crated in his foster home, and is allowed unsupervised access to most of the house due to his well-mannered nature. He understands which areas are off-limits and which toys are appropriate, rarely chewing on inappropriate items (though he does enjoy tearing up cardboard boxes). He is accustomed to being left alone during the workday and typically spends his time sleeping or playing with other dogs.

Transportation
Pluto is currently located in Cary, NC. Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and home visits to finalize adoptions. For the perfect home for Pluto, we will consider approved applicants who live a bit further away from the Triangle area of NC, ideally no more than one hour from Cary, NC.
