About MALLOW*
Mallow is an energetic, high-spirited boy who is currently searching for a dedicated, savvy owner to give him the consistency, safety, and structure he needs to thrive. While Mallow has a lot of potential in the right hands, shelter life has been tough on him, and he has shown signs of decline in his handling while in his kennel. Mallow arrived at the shelter on May 6, 2026, for a bite quarantine. He and two other dogs charged a delivery person on their property, and Mallow was identified as the dog who bit the delivery driver on the hand. During his time with us, our behavior team has also noted that Mallow is dog-selective. During a playgroup session, he was involved in a dog altercation where he latched onto another dog, though he was successfully steered away and separated by handlers. Mallow is running out of time at the shelter, but in a structured home with an experienced handler who understands his needs, he can truly blossom. If you have the experience and the heart to give Mallow the safe haven he needs, please come to us immediately and ask to meet Mallow.
Ideal Home
Mallow requires an adopter who can provide him with clear boundaries, daily physical and mental enrichment, and a consistent routine to help him feel secure. He struggles with stranger danger and can be protective or reactive around unfamiliar people. Therefore, he must meet all members of the household at the shelter before going home. Mallow is also very particular about his canine friends. If you have another dog, they must come to the shelter for a formal meet-and-greet to see if they are a good match. He is not a candidate for public dog parks or off-leash settings with unknown dogs, and any future introductions to new dogs must be done slowly and properly.
Ongoing Health
No specific health conditions are mentioned, but muzzle training is strongly recommended for safety during introductions.
Training & Support
Mallow is selective with other dogs and has a bite history involving a delivery driver. He may be uncomfortable around new people and may exhibit barking, snapping, or fleeing behaviors. When guests are expected, Mallow must be secured in a crate or a safe, separate room. Walks should be restricted to low-traffic, quiet areas. It is recommended to secure Mallow in a crate or quiet room before leaving and upon returning home to make door entries calm and predictable. Muzzle training is strongly recommended for safety during interactions with new people and for any introductions to new dogs. Introductions to new dogs must be gradual, carefully managed in neutral territory, and all body language should be closely monitored. Mallow should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled environments. Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training.
