Sentry

Sentry is a 6.5-month-old, male Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. He is being fostered in Houston, Texas, and his mom, Wanda, who weighs approximately 55 pounds, is pictured in his profile. This adorable pup was rescued from the woods along with his mother and siblings, all of whom were found during a Texas freeze. They have since been in a loving foster home, growing up cared for and cherished.

Sentry is a bundle of joy, greeting each day with enthusiasm! He loves to snuggle in laps, romp with his siblings, and go on walks. He’s curious about the world, loves chasing the water hose, and finds fun in every moment. Sentry is a people-lover, enjoys the company of other dogs, and truly embraces life with a wagging tail. He’s the kind of dog who radiates happiness and will make you feel like the most important person in his world, every single day. As an older puppy, Sentry is a delightful mix of playful energy and a budding calm companion. He is already potty trained and is steadily growing into a confident, affectionate, and well-adjusted dog.

Sentry is one of the most outgoing males in his litter, always ready to meet new friends. He’s eager for attention, whether it’s from people or other dogs, and loves being included in activities. He has been raised with his littermates and mother and enjoys playing with other dogs. He has been around children and has done well. Sentry recently attended a community event and was a hit with both adults and children, happily soaking up all the attention. He is continuing to learn leash manners and basic obedience and is very eager to please.

Ideal Home

Sentry is still an adolescent and is continuing to learn about his world. He would thrive in a home committed to positive reinforcement, building his confidence, and guiding him into an exceptional adult dog. Consistency and continued leash practice will be key to his success. Socialization is crucial for a dog his age. Safe, positive experiences with new people, places, sounds, and friendly dogs will help build his lifelong confidence. We prefer homes with another friendly, well-mannered resident dog to help mentor and guide Sentry, teaching him appropriate play, communication, and boundaries. If you don't currently have a dog, please share your plan for continued socialization, such as structured training classes, regular playdates, or supervised daycare. We also prefer homes where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time, as Sentry will benefit from regular potty breaks, exercise, enrichment, training, and human interaction as he matures.
