At a glance
A little about them
Zabu is a loyal, affectionate dog who blossoms once he feels safe and trusts his people. He loves cuddles, ear scratches, toys, playtime, and staying close to his companions. He has spent most of his life in a group environment and would benefit from a confident canine companion as he adjusts to his new home.
Ideal Home
Zabu is shy and cautious with unfamiliar people, so he needs patience, predictability, and time to build relationships at his own pace. He is good with men, women, children, other dogs, and cats; older children are recommended because his experience with kids has been limited. A yard is preferred, though he can live in an apartment in a quieter city with regular exercise and enrichment.
A quiet, protected feeding area is recommended because food has historically been competitive in his group environment. Extra precautions will also be important after travel, as he may try to escape while nervous in unfamiliar surroundings.
Ongoing Health
Zabu was treated for ehrlichia and anaplasmosis. He is vaccinated and neutered.
Training & Support
Zabu walks on leash, rides well in the car, and is not leash reactive. He is not crate trained, and house training will be needed in a home environment. Positive leash work, gentle exploration, and continued support will help him gain confidence. Adoptions include 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org.
