Florence, affectionately nicknamed Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a playful and energetic 3-year-old Carolina Dog mix who weighs 46 pounds. She's a bundle of fun who loves to wrestle and play chase. Flora enjoys interacting with other dogs, and her foster parents have seen her happily lick the face of the resident dog, Furman. She's demonstrated compatibility with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix. While she adores the 8-year-old child in her foster home, she can be nervous around new children. Flora also experiences "stranger danger" and may bark at new people, especially if they move quickly, so an adult-only household might be best for her at this time. Her compatibility with cats is currently unknown.
Ideal Home
Flora would thrive in a home with someone who is frequently home and enjoys outdoor activities like walks, jogs, and playing fetch. A home with no other pets or a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level would be ideal. She needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement training to help her with her anxiety.

Training & Support
Flora can be a bit reactive on leash, showing behaviors like raised hair, whimpering, and barking, though her foster parents have been working with her on this. She has made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli, doing much better on walks in calm environments. She may do best as the only dog in the home, as it took her some time to warm up to the resident pup. While she has shown some anxiety in a crate at home, she does well when boarded. She is fully housebroken and doesn't have issues being unsupervised outside of a crate. She is fed separately from other dogs and needs gentle reminders to take treats. She is terrified of storms and will seek shelter when they occur.

Transporation
Flora is located in Houston, Texas, and can be transported out of state once an adopter is approved. Transports run every few weeks.
