Tollie is a charming 8-year-old Shih Tzu weighing 9.5 pounds. He arrived at our sanctuary as part of an owner surrender due to his previous person's medical emergency. Now that Tollie has received excellent care and we've learned about his wonderful personality, he's ready to find his forever home! Tollie has beautiful, non-shedding hair with a rare diluted black hue, leaning towards a prized blue Shih Tzu. He's already neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations (Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Corona/flu), and tested negative for heartworm, Lyme, ehrlichia, and anaplasmosis. He recently had a dental cleaning and bloodwork, both showing good results. Tollie is microchipped, receives regular flea/tick and heartworm prevention, and has begun positive reinforcement training. He also enjoys baths and grooming.
Ideal Home
Tollie would thrive in a home where his people are around most of the time, providing him with companionship day and night. He's looking for laid-back individuals and would do well with another agreeable dog or as an only dog if he sees other canines daily. He enjoys being the center of attention and will want to be by your side, so expect him to share your sofa and bedroom – crates are not an option. Older children will be considered on a case-by-case basis, only if they have prior experience with dogs, understand dog behavior, and show great respect. A securely fenced backyard would be a bonus for him to play in.
Ongoing Health
Tollie has hair, not fur, which requires professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. This commitment to grooming and its associated costs is essential for his well-being. He recently underwent a dental cleaning and bloodwork, both of which were within normal ranges. A good health certificate will be provided with his medical records.
Training & Support
Tollie is currently working on getting comfortable with a harness and leash, and learning basic commands like "sit," "recall," and "look." His new family will be required to continue his training sessions. Basic foundational skills training with a certified professional positive reinforcement trainer is a must for his adoption, offering a great way to bond.
