Meet Penelope! (Est DOB 2024) This sweet girl had a rough start when she was found abandoned, but thankfully a loving foster opened up her home and her heart to Penelope, who was understandably scared and confused. Now that she's had all her vet care and learned how to be a loved little house dog, she's ready to find her forever home! She is a little thing at 25 pounds, and would make a great companion for someone who spends a lot of time at home. Penelope is equal parts dachshund, piranha, and Tigger! She is playful, clever, devoted, active, courageous, and stubborn. She is an opportunistic feeder and moves by darting and leaping.
Penelope is definitely still in her "toddler" phase, as everything goes into her mouth and she chews her food and treats as quickly as possible. She's also sneaky with her food, and has learned to open food storage containers if they aren't sealed! Penelope has bonded closely with her foster mom and will bark if anyone approaches her person, but is quiet when her foster mom is away. She plays with her toys quietly but prefers interaction with her human, often curling up on a lap or squeezing in beside her foster mom.
Ideal Home
Penelope would be happiest having a person of her own, whether that is in a household of one or many. She seems to prefer people over other animals. Children should be old enough to understand that she thinks biting hands is playing. Her perfect place to sleep would be curled up in a bed with her human. Penelope would have her best life by always being with her person.
Ongoing Health
Penelope has had all her necessary vet care.
Training & Support
Penelope has not yet figured out how to walk on a leash and prefers walking in circles. Her clue to needing to go outside is to stare, and this signal has been missed a few times. Penelope will greet new dogs with a bark and growl, but could get used to a tolerant and patient dog with proper introductions. We are happy to formally cat test her.
