Lazaro

Lazaro is a charming 6-7 year old, approximately 19 lb Schnauzer mix with a gentle spirit and a quiet demeanor. He's a social butterfly who gets along wonderfully with other dogs, children, and adults, and he even coexists peacefully with chickens! Lazaro enjoys affection but is perfectly happy being an independent companion, appreciating calm love and gentle attention. He's a tranquil and easygoing fellow, making him an ideal fit for a relaxed household. While he can be a little protective of his food, basic boundaries during mealtime are recommended. Lazaro has a unique charm with one eye that is congenitally small and without vision, and he's missing a few teeth. Despite these differences, he is perfectly healthy, pain-free, and lives a full and happy life. He loves his walks and is non-aggressive, though he might bark a bit to sound tough, he's all bark and no bite! Lazaro was sadly abandoned for being considered "old" and "different," but he is a testament to the fact that true beauty and value come from within. He's ready to find a family who will cherish his calm nature, resilience, and quiet loyalty.

Ideal Home

Lazaro would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard and an active family who enjoys outdoor activities. He needs a family with a genuine intention to rescue and a deep understanding of the needs and behaviors of rescued animals. Prior experience with dog behavior and training, or a willingness to hire a trainer, is highly valued. A high tolerance and patience for rescued animals are essential.

Ongoing Health

Lazaro is healthy and pain-free. He has a congenital condition with one eye that is small and without vision, and he is missing a few teeth. These conditions do not affect his quality of life. He has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated (DHPPI, Rabies, Bordetella), dewormed, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm. He receives monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.

Training & Support

Lazaro is not house-trained. Patience and understanding are crucial, as rescued dogs may have fears and anxieties due to past experiences and need time to adjust to new environments. Providing a safe and loving environment, establishing a routine, and setting clear boundaries will help him feel secure. While he may bark and try to act like the "boss" sometimes, it's never aggressive.

• If it's a potential match, we will schedule a call or video chat to introduce you to the pet and conduct a virtual home tour.

• Upon approval, you will sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover vet care, vaccines, microchip, and food.

Transportation

Lazaro is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on a cross-country trip if adopted. Transportation is available through a partnered transport company, with scheduled trips approximately 3-4 times per year. A one-time transport fee of $400 USD covers door-to-door delivery from Mexico to your home. The transport team will provide regular updates throughout the journey.
