Evander

Meet Evander!

Evander is a handsome 3-year-old, 50-pound hunk who is ready for his forever home! He was rescued from a difficult situation near the border in Eagle Pass, TX, where hundreds of dogs had been abandoned. Initially very fearful, Evander has since realized he is safe and has blossomed into a spunky, curious, and cuddly boy. He is proof that we do not deserve dogs! After all he has been through, this happy guy will melt your heart and warm your home with his sweet nature. He is really looking forward to meeting you!

Ideal Home

Evander is a velcro baby and happiest with his person close by. He enjoys snuggles on the couch after some playtime. He has done well exploring dog-friendly places that aren't overly crowded and prefers to approach new people on his own terms. Given his size and playful nature, he would likely do best with older children, as he may be a bit much for very young ones. He is curious about cats but would likely need to learn to give them space.

Evander is a healthy boy, with no specific health conditions noted.

Training & Support

Evander is still learning, as he is a puppy by nature. He is curious and sometimes gets into things but is learning "drop" and "leave it" and happily redirects to a chew toy. He has learned to respect other dogs' space when they are not in a playful mood. He knows to wait at his "place" for meals and that his crate is his safe space, sleeping quietly in it overnight and during the day. He is very treat-motivated and learns quickly, especially from other dogs. With consistency, he learns expected behaviors. He is learning to allow his human to lead on a leash.
