About Iris

Iris was pulled from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings, and she's the last one still waiting for her forever home. This sweet 3.5-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. At a compact 47 pounds, Iris is a goofy, playful, and affectionate girl who is genuinely sweet once she trusts you. She's a dog worth getting to know, and she deserves someone who understands that a slow burn leads to something really special. Once she trusts you, she is ALL in. Iris would be a dream for someone working from home, but deep down, she belongs somewhere quieter, with trails, open space, and away from the chaos of city streets. She loves fetch with tennis balls more than almost anything and is silly and tender. Iris is dog-selective and does best with slow, intentional introductions, but with patience, she has been able to build genuine friendships. She currently plays with dogs in her foster home, wrestling, chasing, and trading kisses, but play works best when food and toys are kept out of the mix. Iris is best suited for an adult-only home, as unpredictable energy from children isn't ideal for her. She loves her leash and walks confidently for shorter distances, but can be reactive when dogs get too close, so she does best with an owner who knows how to create distance and set her up for success. Iris is fully potty and crate trained and her crate is her sanctuary. She can free-roam the house with no accidents or destructive behavior if she's the only dog. Iris does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so if there are other dogs in the home, Iris should be fed separately. Iris' energy level is moderate and wonderfully balanced; she loves walks but is equally happy hanging out or curling up on the couch.

Ideal Home

An adult-only home with a quieter lifestyle, preferably with access to trails, open space, and away from city chaos. An outdoorsy lifestyle is a huge bonus.

Ongoing Health

Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed.

Training & Support

Iris can exhibit food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs and should be fed separately if there are other dogs in the home. While she is generally well-behaved, she can be reactive to other dogs on walks, requiring an owner who can create distance and set her up for success. She needs slow, intentional introductions to new people and dogs.
