Hi, I'm Canelo! I'm a handsome 3-year-old Chihuahua mix with a beautiful red-brown and white coat, accented with some black fur. I'm a small guy looking for a fresh start. My previous situation meant I had to leave my home because only one dog was allowed, and sadly, I drew the short straw. Thankfully, a generous sponsor has helped me get into CARL's adoption program, and I'm now ready to find my forever family!
I can be a little shy and reserved when I first meet new people, and I might act a bit tough. But once I get to know you, I'm a sweet, playful, and incredibly snuggly companion who loves my walks and spending time with my people. I also enjoy burrowing under soft blankets and taking naps in a cozy dog bed, perhaps even in your bedroom. Little stuffed toys are my jam, and I'm always up for a good chase! I'm also a big fan of car rides and visiting the dog park.
Ideal Home
I thrive in a home where I can be the center of attention and feel like top dog! A quiet household with a female human would be ideal. I would prefer to be the only dog in the home, as I like to have my person all to myself. While I can be around other people, I need time to warm up, and I'm not comfortable with children or strangers who might startle me or compete for my attention. Loud commotion makes me uneasy.

Training & Support
I'm potty trained and respond well to the command "go potty." I love treats, but it's important to know that I can nip if I feel my treats are being taken away by fingers. Small treats should be offered from an open palm. My former foster believes that with consistent training, I can overcome this. I also sleep best in my own doggie bed and not on the human bed. I am crate trained, but I dislike the crate being used for punishment. If crated, please provide a soft blanket for comfort. I don't bark excessively, and my barks are not loud or piercing.
