Meet CaLagotto. Welcome to CALAGOTTO, a home we share with our beloved Lagotto Romagnolo. We pride ourselves on breeding the healthiest, most loving, independent, confident, playful, loyal, and kindhearted Lagotto puppies. Grant and Dat's journey together is deeply rooted in their shared passion for travel, culinary & cultural experiences, nature, animals, and our pets, particularly their love for their Lagotto Romagnolo. As well as all the other beloved pets throughout their lives. Our journey with this remarkable breed began years ago, with our first Lagotto, a little curly fluffball full of energy and bravado. She ignited our passion, which has only grown stronger over time for both of us. Watching her dive headfirst into the shimmering water at Folsom Lake was a memory that still warms our hearts. With sandy paws and wagging tails, our dogs seemed to have some sort of unspoken pact; they loved the water just as much as we did. Our breeding philosophy centers around the well-being, health, genetics, and temperament of each Lagotto Romagnolo in our breeding program. We carefully select breeding pairs to breed puppy litters that not only meet the physical standards of the breed but also embody the excellent temperaments that make them wonderful family companions. We adhere to a rigorous health testing regimen for all our breeding dogs to achieve this. These health checks are vital in identifying genetic conditions and ensuring that we are breeding only the healthiest Lagotti. This practice helps minimize potential health issues, providing our puppies with a sound genetic foundation. As a small boutique breeder, we pride ourselves on raising happy, healthy, well-socialized puppies. Our selective breeding approach prioritizes quality over quantity, allowing us to focus our resources and attention on 1-3 litters each year. This focused strategy ensures that our puppies are raised in a nurturing environment where they receive the individualized care necessary for their lifelong development. By carefully choosing our breeding pairs, we uphold breed standards, promoting not only the physical characteristics but also the temperament and health standards of our dogs. We utilize Puppy Culture and BAB protocols to enrich, stimulate, and challenge our puppies in order for them to become stronger, healthier, and well-rounded individuals who exemplify the best qualities of their breed. Our commitment to responsible breeding ensures that each puppy is well-socialized and prepared to become a loving pet companion, embodying both beauty and strength. At CALAGOTTO, our commitment to the Lagotto Romagnolo extends beyond merely promoting the breed. We adhere to strict health standards, OFA and FCI health tests, while being mindful of all AKC and the Lagotto Romagnolo Club of America breeding standards, ensuring the well-being of our dogs and their litters. This includes screening for genetic disorders, such as Lagotto Storage Disease or Benign Familial Juvenile Epilepsy, that can affect Lagottos, along with providing a stable and nurturing environment that aids in their social development. All breeding dogs a screened for hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, elbow dysplasia, and eye exams as part of the OFA and FCI certification protocols. We believe that raising Lagottos not only involves ethical breeding but also a major responsibility on the breeder's behalf. Each Lagotto puppy is treated with lots of love, care, and respect, ensuring they are well-adjusted and ready to thrive in their new homes. All of our puppies will have a basic introduction to the truffle scent and truffle hunting training.
