Braille is a 5-month-old, 18 lb puppy full of life and resilience! Despite being blind and deaf, she's a normal, happy puppy who has been a joy to foster. She loves to play with her foster family and wrestle with her canine siblings. Braille enjoys her favorite toys and mini milkbones, and she coexists peacefully with 13 cats. She's also met many children and does wonderfully with them. A typical day includes breakfast (she's used to her foster mom touching her bowl while she eats!), playtime in the yard, or accompanying her foster mom to work. She's crate trained and doesn't need to be crated for short periods, preferring to chew on toys and bones. Braille enjoys an evening walk and sleeps soundly in her crate at night. She's recently discovered the fun of splashing in a kiddie pool and loves car rides, often falling asleep due to the soothing vibrations. Braille is learning through touch, understanding commands for "sit" and "give paw," and is working on "lay down." She enjoys her bed and can get on and off the sofa. While she can manage a few stairs, she hasn't mastered full flights yet. She's being trained to ring bells on the door to go outside, and she's good about pottying promptly once she hits the grass.
Ideal Home
Braille would love a family with a fenced-in yard who is committed to continuing her evening walks and touch training. Ideally, someone would work from home or be willing to arrange doggy daycare a few times a week, as she's a social girl who thrives on interaction.
Ongoing Health
Braille is a healthy, happy puppy.
Training & Support
Braille is being trained through touch, with different touches signifying different commands. She knows "sit" and "give paw," and is working on "lay down." Her foster mom has been consistently desensitizing her to handling (ears, paws) and new situations to build her confidence and prevent fear reactivity. This type of handling is important for any puppy, but especially for deafblind dogs. She is also being trained to use bells to signal when she needs to go outside.
