Meet Spike!
This spirited two-year-old German Shepherd mix is a handsome boy with a striking black coat, a bright white chest patch, and intelligent eyes that sparkle with curiosity. Weighing around 50 pounds, Spike is a medium-sized dog who embodies a wonderful blend of athletic energy and heartfelt devotion. He truly believes he's a lap dog and will gently snuggle into your lap for belly rubs and affection. His favorite toys are squeaky ones, and he delights in games of fetch and proudly showing off his treasures. Spike is also an enthusiastic swimmer who loves a good dip in the pool, making him an ideal companion for an active guardian who enjoys outdoor adventures like running or hiking.
When Spike first arrived, he was quite fearful and easily startled, often keeping his distance to feel safe. Over the past year and a half, he has blossomed with confidence! He now actively seeks affection, initiates play, and eagerly cuddles. While he might bark at strangers out of uncertainty, he quickly recovers and looks to his people for reassurance.
Ideal Home
Spike needs a patient, experienced pet parent who can provide a fenced yard, loving guidance, and steady leadership in a caring environment. He would benefit from thoughtful introductions to any potential canine housemates and has lived peacefully with female dogs. He sometimes whimpers if he sees his people cuddling another dog.
Ongoing Health
Spike is neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous family!
Training & Support
Spike is crate-trained and house-trained. He knows commands such as sit, wait, crate, out, and no, and he reliably comes when called. He is patient when waiting for treats and responds well to structure and positive reinforcement. He settles peacefully in his crate for naps when left alone for short periods. Loud sirens can make him uneasy.
