Declan

Declan is a resilient and loving dog who has been with us for over three years. He was rescued from a kill shelter by a WARF volunteer and, upon arrival, we discovered his left eye had to be removed due to trauma. Initially, Declan showed aggression towards people and animals, likely due to poor training as a former guard dog. However, with consistent care and support from his trusted handlers, he has made significant progress and is now confident enough for slow, controlled introductions to new people. Declan is ready to find his special person and would thrive as the sole companion in a home. He enjoys an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, patrolling his territory, but requires secure containment due to his strength and protective nature. While he has learned to walk alongside other dogs, he prefers to be the only animal in the household. Declan is seeking a calm, confident adopter willing to commit to multiple visits and a home check to ensure he never experiences abandonment again.

Ideal Home

Declan would do best in a home with a single woman who can appreciate his protective nature once bonded. He needs an indoor-outdoor environment with secure containment and no other pets.

Ongoing Health

Declan's left eye was removed due to trauma; he has adjusted well to having only one eye.

Training & Support

Declan has made great progress but still requires careful, controlled introductions to new people. He is not suitable for a home with other animals. He has learned to walk nicely on a leash with other dogs.
