Flynn is a handsome, 2-5 year old, 40 lb red merle Border Collie with a rough coat. He arrived at a shelter as a stray with a past that remains a mystery. He was found to have heartworms and a paw injury, suggesting he'd been on his own for a while. After transferring to CBCR, Flynn received much-needed medical care. He's now free of parasites, his paw has healed, and he's feeling much better overall!
Ideal Home
Flynn needs a home with extensive breed and training experience. He has an extreme prey drive and can squeeze through tiny openings, so he must be supervised at all times when outside, even in a securely fenced yard. He is very sensitive to loud noises like thunder and gunshots, which can cause him to panic and become destructive, potentially needing to be crated with anti-anxiety medication. He cannot be adopted to homes with cats or any small animals due to his prey drive. He would likely do best as the only dog in the home but can co-exist with other dogs with careful evaluation. He will not be adopted to homes with any type of electric fencing.
Ongoing Health
Flynn has fully recovered from heartworms and his paw injury. He is likely to need anti-anxiety medication for the rest of his life, and the dosage may need to be adjusted in his new home.
Training & Support
Flynn has made significant progress in recognizing and responding to his foster humans, but he will need a long bonding period with his new owners. He can be sensitive to sounds and has a strong prey drive that cannot be redirected with treats or toys. He has learned that humans are friends and is very sweet and friendly to people, including children, on walks. He may need to be kept on leash for a long period, especially in a new home. His foster parents believe with the right training, he may excel in dog sports, particularly nosework, and would thrive in a home that can provide him with a "job."
