George is an estimated 1.5-year-old, 35lb sweetheart who is the perfect mid-sized companion! He was rescued from a crowded shelter where he was initially found feeling quite scared. Once in his foster home, George has truly blossomed. While he's still getting used to common house noises, he's settled in wonderfully and enjoys relaxing with his humans, sometimes for hours while watching TV. He's fostered with other dogs of various sizes and has shown that with slow, monitored introductions, he can warm up to new canine friends. George is a medium-energy boy with a playful spirit and enjoys wrestling and chasing with his foster siblings, especially his ~17lb foster sister who matches his playful intensity. He loves going for walks and short jogs, and while he can be a bit of a statue when encountering new things or dogs on walks, he's easily motivated by his love of treats to keep moving.
Ideal Home
George would thrive in a patient, adult-only home. He prefers quieter streets for his walks and would not be a good fit for a bustling city environment. A calmer household, free from unpredictable movements and noises, would suit him best. He would also be happy to have a tolerant doggy sibling to share his home with.
Ongoing Health
George has a heart murmur caused by a congenital defect called Pulmonary Valve Stenosis. He underwent a successful Balloon Valvuloplasty procedure at UC Davis in October, and his condition is now considered mild. Dogs in this range can live normal lifespans.
Training & Support
George is highly food-motivated, making him very trainable! He can get a bit overly excited for treats and walks and sometimes forgets his manners, so continued positive reinforcement training will help him continue to polish his good behavior. Due to his occasional statue-like reactions to new sights and sounds on walks, he is not a candidate for doggy daycare or dog parks at this time.
