Meet Benson!
Benson is a gentle, five-year-old mixed breed with a soulful gaze and a soft cream coat. He's a large, 75-pound companion who is a blend of American Pitbull Terrier, German Shepherd, Chow Chow, and other breeds. Benson is happiest when he's by your side, whether that's on a car ride, lounging by a window, or snuggling during quiet evenings. He's a calm, low-energy dog who enjoys napping and relaxing. Benson knows an impressive list of commands, including "sit," "stay," "come," "leave it," "look at me," and sweet ones like "kisses" and "snuggle." His favorite pastimes include enrichment games, swimming, chasing a ball, and enjoying a good chew. Benson may take a moment to warm up to new people, but once he connects, he is deeply devoted, incredibly loving, and attentive with impeccable house manners. He's an intuitive boy who is deeply in tune with emotions and forms strong bonds, offering comfort when you need it most.
Ideal Home
Benson would thrive in a calm, structured environment with a securely fenced yard that is at least six feet tall, as he has been known to jump fences. He needs a home where he can feel safe, supported, and understood. He requires an adult-only home and is not compatible with cats.
Ongoing Health
Benson takes a daily medication to manage his allergies and support his emotional balance, a plan established with his behavioral vet. He also has a situational calming aid on hand for higher-stress moments like grooming.
Training & Support
Benson can be selective with other dogs and may be reactive with unfamiliar ones, requiring a thoughtful and well-managed environment. While he has experience living with multiple dogs, there has been rising tension with one particular dog in the home, leading to a physical altercation. He needs a caregiver who can provide very structured, gradual introductions supported by positive reinforcement training if he is to be the only dog in the home or if other dogs are present. He walks well on leash but can pull, so continued guidance and positive reinforcement training will help him stay focused. In his first weeks in a new home, he does best kept on leash even within the fenced yard and around doorways while he settles in.
