Theo is a handsome 4-year-old, 120lb boy with a heart full of love, though he's still learning to trust. He was sadly a victim of severe abuse, and while he's made incredible progress, he still carries some fear of people. He's a very kind and gentle dog with zero aggression, but he can be quite timid and will often try to get away from new people. Theo is incredibly devoted to his family and craves companionship, but he needs patience and understanding as he learns to feel safe. He's highly intelligent and has a tremendous smile, often "talking" to his loved ones. He absolutely adores treats and is very well-mannered when receiving them.
Ideal Home
Theo would thrive in a home where he can continue to build trust and feel secure. He needs a home with other dogs to feel happy, as he loves canine companionship and depends on them. He would do best with gentle introductions to new dogs. Due to his breed and fears, a 6ft fenced yard is absolutely required for his safety and playtime. He is a "roamer/runner" and cannot be trusted off-leash, even in a fenced yard, he must always be leashed when outside of his secure fencing. He will also need an owner who can handle his strength, especially when he might be scared on a leash. He is not a "Landshaping Dog" and is intended as a family pet only. He is not suitable for homes with dominant large or XL male dogs.
Ongoing Health
Theo was previously heartworm positive but has since been treated and is now heartworm negative. He is currently taking anxiety medication for separation anxiety to help him cope when left alone.
Training & Support
Theo has separation anxiety and is on medication for it. He is crate trained, but has been known to break out of crates, so a secure environment is crucial. He is house-trained. Due to his past trauma, he requires significant patience, compassion, and commitment to help him learn to trust. He is not a dog that will be immediately cuddly or kissy; it will take time for him to establish acceptance and trust in his new life. He is a very kind and gentle soul and is not aggressive in any way.
