Lucy (Wonky back legs)

Lucy is a tiny, 8.5-pound black-and-tan mini dachshund who is 4 years old but often mistaken for a puppy! She arrived with us after being diagnosed with IVDD, but her back is doing much better now. She does have some deformed back legs that we are working to strengthen. Lucy can stand and take several steps, and her IVDD is no longer painful. She has regained partial bladder control but still wears a diaper inside. We are focusing on hydrotherapy several times a week to continue her strength training and are exploring custom braces for her back legs to help keep her knees and ankles aligned. Lucy is sweet, loves to be close to her humans, and has a silly habit of "digging" in and chewing on long hair!

Ideal Home

Lucy would love a home where she can be close to her people. Her ongoing therapy needs and potential for continued improvement mean she'll need a dedicated adopter.

Ongoing Health

Lucy was diagnosed with IVDD and has some deformed back legs. She has undergone laser, acupuncture, and swim therapy, and is using an Assisi loop to reduce inflammation. She will need 1 more booster vaccination in a few weeks. Lucy is also scheduled for a dental on August 11th due to tartar buildup.

Training & Support

Lucy still wears a diaper inside and is working on regaining full bladder control. She is undergoing regular hydrotherapy and is being fitted for custom braces.
