About Rueger

Rueger is a charming 6-year-old chocolate-and-tan dachshund, weighing in at a petite 13-14 lbs. He's recently had a dental procedure where ten teeth were lost, and he's now fully healed and ready to find his forever home. Rueger is a master of cuddles and gives the best hugs, truly loving to snuggle in your lap. While he's a talker and enjoys a good bark, he's incredibly gentle and friendly with everyone. He also sports some lovely thinning hair and alopecia in spots, which means he's a big fan of sweaters, and he'll happily help you pick out his fashionable attire!

Ideal Home

Rueger would thrive in a home with other dogs and a family that isn't gone for long hours, as he enjoys companionship. He is good with cats and dogs that are friendly and relaxed, and he also gets along well with men, women, and children aged 8 and up.

Ongoing Health

Rueger has some thinning hair and alopecia in spots, but he loves wearing sweaters. He does wobble due to a condition that is likely from having distemper as a puppy or a mild case of cerebellar hypoplasia. He does not have IVDD or seizures. While his wobbles are noticeable, he is otherwise healthy. The vet suggested that seizure medication might help reduce his wobbling, but this decision will be left to his loving forever home.

Training & Support

Rueger is house-trained. He loves to bark, so continued positive reinforcement and redirection might be helpful. With his love for sweaters, getting him dressed should be a fun bonding experience!
