Meet Emilio, a 2-year-old, 45lb hound mix who is ready to find the loving forever home he truly deserves. Emilio's journey began when he arrived in Canada from Mexico through a rescue as a puppy, sadly very sick and underweight. After two years in a home, he was unexpectedly abandoned due to circumstances beyond his control.

Emilio is a gentle soul who takes a little time to warm up and build confidence around new people. But once he feels secure, his sweet, cuddly, playful, and incredibly intelligent nature blossoms. He's a smart cookie who already knows many commands and delights in showing off his skills for tasty treats and enthusiastic praise. His absolute favorite trick is "middle," where he'll happily trot between your legs, sit proudly, and await his well-earned recognition. He truly enjoys training sessions, loves going for sniffy walks to explore the world with his nose, and is a champion at curling up for cuddles. While he might be a bit timid in new situations or around unfamiliar faces at first, his fun-loving and affectionate personality truly shines through once he feels comfortable and safe.

Ideal Home

Emilio would absolutely thrive in a home that understands he may need a little time to settle in and feel at ease. A calmer environment with predictable routines will be his superpower for success. Busy households, sudden movements, and loud noises can be a bit overwhelming for him, so a peaceful setting is key. We're looking for an experienced adult-only home for Emilio, with no other dogs. He has made some dog friends during his time with us and enjoys walking alongside other dogs, and can be playful in the right setting. However, he can also be reactive toward some dogs, so dog parks are not for him. Instead, he would love a few trusted dog friends and thoughtful, slow introductions. Emilio was cat tested and showed a positive response to cats. He may do well in a home with a dog-savvy cat, provided introductions are done slowly and carefully.

Ongoing Health

All adult dogs at Animal Services receive veterinary health checks. They are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas (if necessary) before joining their new families.

Training & Support

Emilio is searching for an adopter who can continue to help him build his confidence. New sights, sounds, and unexpected situations can sometimes be overwhelming for him, and he may react with fear. Because he is so intelligent and genuinely enjoys training, Emilio has fantastic potential to continue growing with patient guidance, consistency, and lots of encouragement.
