About Chrisstiee / Tonka
General Notes | Quite literally pulled moments before his euthanasia deadline due to being scared and fearful in the shelter, Tonka is hoping for a big break - a forever family, and no more scary days. Tonka was nervous and scared when he first arrived to Mile High Lab Rescue. To help him decompress, he spent a month at a dog training program! You would never know he was ever scared or anxious. He is so happy and loves playing and being near you!
The training program really gave Tonka time to decompress and come out of his shell! He is now able to be his happy, goofy self! If you are looking for a puppy to take on adventures and snuggle up, Tonka is your guy!
Want to adopt this dog? Please do not email us. Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP, and an Adoption Coordinator will be in touch within a few days. Our standard application processing timeline is 12 - 14 days.
Personality |
Tonka is such a good boy! Loves his walks and toys! Foster mom works from home and when busy, he will run around and throw his toys himself! He can be a little barky at first when people come over but opens up pretty immediately. Then he will be your shadow! He loves cuddling and following you around but doesn't get separation anxiety!
Even though he's a puppy and has some energy, it is not destructive! Hasn't destroyed or gotten into anything he shouldn't.
Overall, he is the best boy! So sweet, snuggly, and happy!
Other Dogs | Loves other dogs! Will play with foster sister a lot but when she gets over it, Tonka picks up on that and leaves her alone. He got along really well with other dogs in the training program as well!
Cats | Unknown but doesn't have a huge prey drive. Doesn't chase squirrels or rabbits.
Children | Unknown. No kids at foster home. His high energy times could be a lot for a toddler so likely would do better with slightly older children.
Training | He learned so much in his training program! Has a booklet of all his trainings and continue to expand on his learnings at his foster home. He is a puppy still so doesn't listen 100% of the time but he does so well! Basics are down pat, potty trained, and sleeps through the night in his crate without making a peep! Doesn't get into anything he shouldn't.
Leash | Does well on his walks. His training included walking on the leash and does heel well. Doesn't pull a ton but likes to sniff around and explore.
Activity Level | Moderate - your typical lab!
Health Notes | Healthy

Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog).
Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file.
Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.
We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
