Duke is a 10-year-old senior pit bull with a heart of gold! He's kind, loving, and easy-going, and he's looking for a forever home to share his golden years. Duke's previous owner sadly passed away, and he was facing a difficult situation. Thankfully, dedicated pilots from Pilots N Paws stepped in and provided free transport, flying Duke all the way from Texas to Tennessee to give him a second chance at life.
Since arriving at our sanctuary on August 5th, Duke has charmed everyone he meets. A professional trainer observed him to be a gentle soul, well-socialized with people and adaptable to various situations. He walks nicely on a leash, sits patiently during conversations, and responds when called. He's also been great with children! Duke does have a prey drive, so he might chase small animals that run. He can be a bit reactive if he encounters dominant behavior from other dogs or cats, but he seems to do well with laid-back personalities and might even get along with feline friends.
Ideal Home
Duke would thrive in a home where he can continue to enjoy his senior years with love and companionship. While he's done well with children and appears to get along with easy-going dogs and potentially cats, his prey drive means he may chase animals that run.
Ongoing Health
Duke is current on his rabies vaccination. He has an eye that has recessed into his head due to an atrophied muscle, but the eyeball itself is healthy and he can still see. This is a cosmetic issue and doesn't cause him any health problems.
Training & Support
Duke is housetrained and has excellent leash manners. He has also shown an incredible bond with a young puppy named Cocoa. They have learned so much from each other – Duke taught Cocoa manners and how to use the dog door, while Cocoa has brought out Duke's playful, youthful side. Because of their strong bond, we are seeking a special home that will adopt Duke and Cocoa together.
