Lazaro

Lázaro is a wonderfully calm and gentle 6-7 year old Schnauzer mix, weighing around 19 lbs. He has a quiet presence and a soul full of love to share. Lázaro sleeps comfortably in an open crate and can be left for short periods without issue, showing excellent crate manners. He's a social butterfly who gets along famously with other dogs, children, men, and women. He even coexists peacefully with chickens and roosters! Lázaro enjoys affection but isn't overly clingy, preferring to be a laid-back companion who appreciates calm love and gentle attention. He's a tranquil and easygoing dog, perfect for a relaxed household. This resilient boy was abandoned for being considered "old" and "different," but he is living proof that true beauty shines from the heart.

Ideal Home

Lázaro would thrive in a home with a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. He needs a family with a genuine intention to rescue and a deep understanding of the needs and behaviors of rescued street animals, requiring protection and education. Families with experience in dog behavior and training, or those willing to hire a trainer, will best set Lázaro up for success. He also requires high tolerance and patience for his adjustment period.

Ongoing Health

Lázaro is healthy, pain-free, and lives a completely normal life despite having a small, non-visionary eye and missing a few teeth. These unique features do not limit him. He has received a spay/neuter certificate, DHPPI and Rabies vaccines, a Bordetella vaccine, has been dewormed, microchipped, tested negative for heartworm, and is on monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive. A health certificate and vaccination booklet are provided.

Training & Support

Lázaro can be a bit protective of his food, so basic boundaries during feeding time are recommended. While he may bark and try to act like the "boss" sometimes, it's all talk and never aggression. It's important to understand that rescued dogs may have fears and anxieties due to past experiences and need time to adapt. Patience, understanding, a safe and loving environment, and a consistent routine will be crucial in helping Lázaro build trust and strengthen his bond with his new family. He is not house-trained, and this will require dedicated effort and consistency.

Application Details:

Applications start by contacting us through Wags. You will be asked to fill out an adoption form and send photos/videos of your home to ensure your future furry friend will be safe. If it's a match, we'll arrange a call or video chat to introduce you to the pet and conduct a virtual home tour. We will also speak with 1-2 of your references. Upon approval, you'll sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover vet care, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and food.

Transporation

Lázaro is currently fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on our cross-country trip if adopted. We offer door-to-door delivery for a one-time fee of $400 USD. Our transport process includes scheduled trips (3-4 times per year with 15-20 adoptions per trip), with a contracted transport company that travels from Montana to Mexico to collect adopted pets. They will escort pets across the border into Texas for US adoptions or to the US-Canada border for Canadian adoptions, with all necessary legal and health documents. You will receive real-time updates via a private Facebook Messenger group with photos, videos, and feeding/walking schedules. The transport team will deliver your pet directly to your home and conduct a final home review.
